ATTENDANCE

Each time you come to class attendance will be taken. The duration between promotions is partially based upon the number of classes attended. Also, there are awards for excellent attendance. Please see Sensei for details. We can't stress enough the importance of regular attendance, especially if you are enrolling a child. If for nothing else, it teaches the child that commitment, practice, and hard work can help you achieve your golas, but quitting does not!

Each person has his or her own reason for studying Jujitsu. Please talk to Sensei about which program would best suit your individual needs.
The Self Defense Program

The Self Defense Program is an excellent introduction into the martial arts with a focus on learning effective self-defense while developing your mind, body, and spirit.

The techniques in this class are based on the core self defense techniques of Goshin Budo Jujitsu.  Goshin Budo Jujitsu concentrates on practical, no nonsense techniques, that anyone can apply in real self defense situation.

Classes are high energy and fast paced. Everyone works at their own pace, and grow together through encouragement and teamwork.

The success of our students is only as good the integrity and commitment of the whole group.

We are a judgement free, dojo where you will feel encouraged to progress and achieve things you never thought you were capable of doing.

We have a broad curricilum, filled with strikes, kicks, throws, joint locks, and evasionary skills that will always keep you motivated.

Once you begin your training, you will see and feel the emotional and physical benefits of studying at the Popkin Brogna Self Defense Center.

Your endurance, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and self esteem with grow by leaps and bounds.

Students can remain in the self-defense class indefinately, but most choose to expand their knowledge and and challenge themselves with  higher levels of  training.

For this reason we created the Traditional Program

The Traditional Program

The Traditional Program builds upon core skills of the Self Defense Program, but incorporates classical Japanese Jujitsu. This is for a student desiring to expand their horizons beyond self-defense and conditioning.

Students are instructed on the proper protocols  inherent in all Traditional Japanese Martial arts.

The students will delve into the finer points of applying Jujitsu techniques, learn how to re-direct energy, counter a counter attack, and learn high level control and off balancing techniques.

The Black Belt Club

The Black Belt Club is for those who want to take their trainig to an even higher level.

This program is for people who can really commit their time to expanding their knowledge and perfecting their skills.

Black Belt members will begin instruction in Japanese Hanbo-jitsu from the school Kukishinden Hanbojitsu.

To get the most out of their training, Black Belt Club members must be members of the Traditional Program.

BBC classes  focus on honing your skills in a private setting, classes are less intense physically, but you will experiencing  more of a "mental sweat."  The instruction is very detailed oriented, and notebooks are reccommended.

The Leadership Program

Students in the Leadership Program gain a deeper understanding of the mindset of a martial artist.

For some, this is mere physical activity, but for the select few in the Leadership Program, this is a way of life.

This program is for students who wish to become an instructor. Enrollment in the Traditional and BBC programs are required.
Classes will focus on public speaking, presentation skill, developing daily curriculum, understanding and having the abilty to teach theory and application of techniques.

Any one can learn techniques, but to ensure the continued, acurate transmission of  our lineage, aspiring teachers must be developed under close, personal attention.

Upon completion of this apprenticeship, students will be CPR, AED and First Aid certified.

When the candidates succesfully complete their Black Belt exam they will be given an Instructor 's Certificate, along with a Black Belt Certificate in Goshin Budo Jujitsu.

This document officially allows them to instruct and promote students up to green belt in our system.

But, it doesn't top there!  Students in the leadership program are expected to continue until at least 3rd Dan.

At 3rd Dan, you are officialy allowed to promote someone to 1st Dan.

Students of the Leadership Program will continue practice the ancient arts of:

Daito Ryu Aikijujitsu

Hontai Takagi Yoshin Ryu

Asayama Ichiden Ryu

Kukishinden Hanbojitsu and Yawara
